Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Choteau

Choteau hadn't done well against Fairfield recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Choteau Bulldogs snuck past the Fairfield Eagles with a 75-71 win. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Bulldogs' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Montana basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while the Eagles are ranked sixth).

Despite the loss, Fairfield still got an impressive performance from Deron Lear, who posted 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Travis Cartwright, who en route to 13 points.

Choteau is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Fairfield fell to 18-1.

Choteau has already played their next game, a 71-61 win against Rocky Boy on the 22nd. As for Fairfield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-44 victory against Cut Bank on the 22nd.
