Softball Recap: Fike Sets Scoring Season-High Against Smithfield-Selma

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fike). They never let the Smithfield-Selma Spartans get on the board and left with a 22-0 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Demons in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won seven in a row.

Gracie Vincent made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Vincent was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Those runs were her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leyla Lopez, who scored two runs and stole Four bases. while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2024. Addison Barnes also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Fike hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive matches.

Fike's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Smithfield-Selma, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with the loss, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Fike will welcome Nash Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Smithfield-Selma, they will venture away from home to face off against West Johnston at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
