Baseball Recap: Galax Maroon Tide vs. Grayson County Blue Devils

Galax had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-12 to make it nine. They lost 13-0 to the Grayson County Blue Devils. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Maroon Tide of the 8-7 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Grayson County, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by nine runs or more this season.

For Grayson County's part, Adam Pennington was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Grayson County is undefeated when Pennington allows one or fewer hits, but 4-5 otherwise. Pennington was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Zach Weatherman was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Troy Stockner also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Looking ahead, Galax will face off against Bland County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Grayson County, they will square off against Varsity Opponent at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
