Softball Game Preview: Marquette Catholic Explorers vs. Civic Memorial Eagles

The Marquette Catholic Explorers will face off against the Civic Memorial Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Marquette Catholic is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.

On Thursday, Marquette Catholic made easy work of Hillsboro and carried off a 7-1 victory. Considering the Explorers have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Kenna Lievers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bella Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Jayla Dickson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, while Civic Memorial put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Triad. The Eagles walked away with a 4-0 win over the Knights. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Marquette Catholic pushed their record up to 13-14 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Civic Memorial, their victory bumped their record up to 14-9.
