Baseball Game Preview: Florence Huskies vs. Custer County Bobcats

The Florence Huskies will challenge the Custer County Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for Florence and three for Custer County.

Salida hit Florence with a seven-run first inning last Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Huskies came up short against the Spartans, falling 13-3.

Florence saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Finn Phillips, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

Meanwhile, Custer County scored first but ultimately less than Simla in their matchup on Tuesday. They lost 15-5 to the Cubs.

Wade Pierce and Lucas Bradford stepped up to the plate in a big way. Pierce went 2-for-3 with one home run, while Bradford got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. That home run was Pierce's first of the season. Wesley Bennett was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Florence's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Custer County, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Custer County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Florence has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Custer County, though, as they've been averaging 10.8 hits. Given Florence's sizable advantage in that area, the Bobcats will need to find a way to close that gap.
