Volleyball Recap: Lutheran Cougars vs. St. Joseph's Academy Angels
Lutheran was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Joseph's Academy Angels. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Angels apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.
While Lutheran ultimately came up short, they really made St. Joseph's Academy work, particularly in the fourth set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 27-25.
Lutheran's offense was headlined by Bailey Mierek and Aubrey Roshek, who picked up 13 kills apiece. They got some help from Eliana Sweet and her 22 assists. Samantha O'Day controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.
St. Joseph's Academy found their leader in freshman Frankie Vonderahe, who had 12 digs and three assists.
Lutheran's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for St. Joseph's Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8-1 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lutheran will take on Parkway Central at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Joseph's Academy, they will face off against St. Pius X at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
