Basketball Preview: Richland County Tigers vs. Charleston Trojans

Richland County and the Trojans are an even 3-3 against one another since November of 2016, but not for long. The pair will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Richland County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.

A well-balanced attack led Richland County over the Indians in every quarter on their way to victory. Richland County was the clear victor by a 61-37 margin over the Indians. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, as Richland County did.

Richland County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyrstin Weiler led the charge by scoring 18 points. Weiler is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for four games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Danielle Reagan Brown, who scored six points along with 17 rebounds and five blocks.

Meanwhile, Charleston's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by Effingham on the road and fell 52-22. Charleston has not had much luck with the Flaming Hearts recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Charleston's defeat came about despite a quality game from Ally Logsdon, who scored 15 points.

The win got Richland County back to even at 13-13. As for Charleston, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Richland County against the Trojans in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 66-18 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Richland County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
