Basketball Game Preview: Aitkin Gobblers vs. Staples-Motley Cardinals

The Aitkin Gobblers will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against the Staples-Motley Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Having struggled with 20 defeats in a row dating back to last season, Aitkin turned things around against Mille Lacs co-op [Isle/Onamia] on Tuesday. They blew past the Huskies 68-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Gobblers have posted since December 27, 2023.

Meanwhile, Staples-Motley's undefeated season came to an end after three games on Friday. They took a 61-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pierz. The loss was the Cardinals' first of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Staples-Motley fell to 3-1. As for Aitkin, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Aitkin lost to Staples-Motley at home by a decisive 65-46 margin when the teams last played back in March. Can Aitkin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
