By Staff Report Nov 2, 2013, 12:00am

Northside Christian is our pick as the top boys basketball team in North Carolina. Also watch out for Wesleyan Christian, Winston-Salem Prep, Olympic and Trinity Christian.

Harry Giles and Wesleyan Christian Academy are our pick as the No. 2 team in North Carolina. Giles will have to watch from the bench this season, though.

1. Northside Christian Academy (Charlotte)
2012-13 record: 32-2, NCISAA Class 2A state champions
Head coach: Byron Dinkins

Standout senior guards James Demery and Keyshawn Woods return from a team that quietly went 32-2 and won its second NCISAA state title in a row.

2. Wesleyan Christian Academy (High Point)
2012-13 record: 23-5, NCISAA Class 3A state champions
Head coach: Keith Gatlin

The defending NCISAA 3A champs would be a national Top 10 contender with super sophomore Harry Giles, but he will miss the season with injury. Don't shed too many tears for the Trojans, however, as they will be led by North Carolina-bound guard Theo Pinson.

3. Winston-Salem Prep (Winston-Salem)
2012-13 record: 32-1, Class 1A state champions
Head coach: Andre Gould

The small school superpower returns five of its top six scorers from a year ago, including seniors Aaron Lipscomb (6-0, G), Mike Hughes (6-4, G/F) and Coye Simmons (6-8, F).

4. Olympic (Charlotte)
2012-13 record: 30-0, Class 4A state champions
Head coach: Ty Baumgardner

The defending 4A state champs enter the season riding a 30-game win streak and feature a talented senior guard in C.J. Jackson.

5. Trinity Christian (Fayetteville)
2012-13 record: 22-8
Head coach: Heath Vandevender

Sophomores Kwe'Shaun Parker and Dennis Smith Jr. comprise one of the most promising – and exciting – backcourts in the country.
