Softball Preview: Discovery Canyon Thunder vs. La Junta Tigers
After two games on the road, Discovery Canyon is heading back home. They will welcome the La Junta Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
Discovery Canyon came up short against Cheyenne Mountain on Wednesday, falling 15-8.
Izzie Ackerman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and a triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Castro, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, La Junta posted their biggest win since August 29th on Thursday. They blew past Alamosa 13-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.
Isabelle Aragon was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Aragon was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Livia Smith was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, she also posted a .750 batting average, which is the highestshe's posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Ayanna Torrez, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, La Junta didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with six strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alamosa didn't tossed any.
Discovery Canyon's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-9. As for La Junta, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
