Soccer Game Preview: Draughn vs. Freedom

The Draughn Wildcats will challenge the Freedom Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Draughn is likely headed into the match with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against NCSSM: Morganton on Tuesday. Draughn fell just short of NCSSM: Morganton by a score of 2-1. While losing is never fun, Draughn can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 393rd, while NCSSM: Morganton are ranked 120th).

Meanwhile, Freedom kept a clean sheet against Burns on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 3-0 victory. Freedom might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by three goals or more this season.

They hit Burns with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Drew Rogers, Maria Perez Rodriguez, and Leah Kirksey.

Freedom moved to 5-5 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Draughn, their loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-8.

Draughn beat Freedom 3-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Draughn repeat their success, or does Freedom has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
