Basketball Recap: Rowe Comes Up Short

Rowe has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell just short of the McAllen Memorial Mustangs by a score of 56-54 on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Warriors came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Mustangs are ranked 238th).

McAllen Memorial's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eva Villarreal led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 16 boards. What's more, Villarreal also racked up four steals, the most she's had since back in February. Ann Mabadeje was another key player, going 5 for 9 on her way to 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Rowe's loss dropped their record down to 19-3. As for McAllen Memorial, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Rowe wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 49-31 victory against McAllen on the 10th. As for McAllen Memorial, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-6 win against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest on the 10th.
