The Greater Beckley Christian Crusaders will head out to take on the Mount View Golden Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Mount View will be up against a hot Greater Beckley Christian team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Crusaders came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against Pocahontas County.
Leah Adkins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Adkins was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Allison Moten was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Peyton Heffernan, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Mount View let Montcalm stack eight runs on them in the second inning on Monday but luckily Mount View prevailed anyway. The Golden Knights narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Generals 11-9. The victory continues a trend for the Golden Knights in their matchups with the Generals: they've now won four in a row.
The team relied heavily on Shiann Carter, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Shianne Belcher, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Mount View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .571 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Mount View pushed their record up to 11-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.4 runs. As for Greater Beckley Christian, their record now sits at 4-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greater Beckley Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mount View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Greater Beckley Christian beat Mount View 4-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Crusaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Golden Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
