Softball Game Preview: Monache Marauders vs. Christian Patriots

The Monache Marauders are taking a road trip to face off against the Christian Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last five games Monache has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Monache is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Long Beach Poly 3-2.

Shy-Lee Teran spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aalyha Mendoza was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

Monache was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Long Beach Poly only posted a batting average of .222.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Christian's offense. They fell 4-0 to Mater Dei Catholic last Tuesday. The Patriots have struggled against the Crusaders recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Monache is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 23-8-1.

Monache's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Marauders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Christian, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Monache continue to outrun the ball?
