Basketball Recap: Marshall Comes Up Short

Marshall lost against O'Connor back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Marshall Rams took a 58-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the O'Connor Panthers. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Marshall saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jenell Flores went 5 of 10 on her way to 11 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. What's more, Flores also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Alex Pedroza was another key player, putting up eight points and five boards.

It was another big night for Casey Chavez, who almost dropped a triple-double on 20 points, ten rebounds, and nine steals for O'Connor. The matchup was Chavez's 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jules Roberts, who went 6 for 12 en route to 15 points.

Marshall's loss dropped their record down to 13-15. As for O'Connor, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 16-14 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Holmes the next time they take the court. O'Connor will host Holmes at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Marshall will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
