Baseball Recap: Polk County Finds Home Field Redemption Against Greenback

There's no place like home for Polk County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Greenback Cherokees on Friday. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 5-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Justin Green was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Green was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tucker Lanning, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That stolen base was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaden Branham, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Polk County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenback only posted an OBP of .364.

Polk County's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Greenback, they moved to 10-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Polk County will welcome Sequoyah at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Greenback, they will head out to square off against Harriman at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
