Softball Recap: Brentwood Gets the Win

Brentwood's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Franklin Admirals a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.

Marina Mason was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Mason, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Bella Black was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Brentwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Franklin only posted a batting average of .100.

Brentwood's victory bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Franklin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-19-1 record this season.

Brentwood will venture away from home to take on Centennial at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bruins are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Franklin, they will welcome Nolensville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Admirals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
