Soccer Game Preview: Marshall vs. Lufkin

Marshall is 0-5 against Lufkin since February of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Mavericks will welcome the Panthers at 7:15 p.m.

Friday just wasn't the day for Marshall's offense. They came up short against Jacksonville on Friday, falling 7-0. While losing is never fun, Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 408th, while Jacksonville are ranked 33rd).

Meanwhile, Lufkin hasn't lost a match since January 3rd, a trend which continued in their latest game on Tuesday. Neither they nor Texas could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 3-3 draw. While a more conclusive result would've been nice, Lufkin got plenty of practice considering the match was the highest-scoring draw the team's played all season.

Marshall's loss dropped their record down to 5-9-3. Lufkin's draw gives them a new season record of 6-3-4.

Marshall couldn't quite get it done against Lufkin in their previous matchup back in March of 2025 as they fell 2-0. Can the Mavericks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
