Softball Recap: Mooreville Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Mooreville had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the New Site Royals as they made off with a 9-1 win. That's more bragging rights for the Troopers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Ella Grace Mitchell was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Saylem Scruggs, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Maddie Simpson was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Mooreville's victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for New Site, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.

Mooreville will face off against Mantachie at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for New Site, they will be playing at home against Walnut at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Royals are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
