Volleyball Game Preview: Giltner Hornets vs. Grand Island Lutheran Lightning

The Giltner Hornets will take on the Grand Island Lutheran Lightning in a tournament on Saturday.

On Thursday, Giltner didn't have quite enough to beat Silver Lake and fell 2-1.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Giltner sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 23-25, 25-23.

Giltner's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Avery Reeson, who had 29 assists and 20 digs, and Peyton Schutt, who had 25 digs and 14 kills.

Meanwhile, Grand Island Lutheran got the win against Blue Hill on Thursday by a conclusive 3-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lightning.

Grand Island Lutheran never let Blue Hill on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-21, 25-22.

Grand Island Lutheran's victory bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Giltner, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Giltner skirted past Grand Island Lutheran 2-1 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lightning turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
