League recap: East Henderson tops West Henderson to extend winning streak

East Henderson extended the longest winning streak in 3A/2A WNC this week by beating West Henderson, 53-21. The win marks 10th in a row for the the Eagles.

Pisgah took down Brevard 56-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.

SETH OWEN and LOGAN JONES gave East Henderson a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. OWEN threw for 132 yards and two touchdowns, while JONES ran for 124 yards. NICK LYONS also contributed to the rushing game with 56 yards on the ground.

Dalton Whitaker was the best wideout in the league this week as North Henderson fell to Smoky Mountain. Whitaker racked up seven receptions for 75 yards. Ryan Garrett helped North Henderson's passing attack out by catching six balls for 69 yards.

Zack Gahagan provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Knights lost to the Mustangs. He completed 25 passes for 244 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 15 yards.

6-foot-1 quarterback Gahagan of North Henderson is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2041. He has also thrown 21 touchdowns. On the ground, Brett Chappell's team's MATT BISHOP has rushed for 985 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is STEFFON HILL. The East Henderson star has 44 catches for 739 yards.

Going into this week's game against Huss, the Eagles' OWEN needs 146 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season. So far this year, OWEN has thrown for 1854 yards with 21 touchdowns and two interceptions.

East Henderson's BISHOP is a mere 15 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.

A big matchup in 3A/2A WNC this week will be when the Bears take on Smoky Mountain. Pisgah is currently in third, while the Mustangs are in fourth.

David Pressley's team led the league in scoring this week after putting up 56 points on the Blue Devils.
