Softball Game Preview: Fort Frye Cadets vs. Belpre Golden Eagles

The Fort Frye Cadets will head out to square off against the Belpre Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Fort Frye is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

If Fort Frye beats Belpre with 14 runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Cadets were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over Zanesville on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cadets.

Carmen Henniger was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Brown, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Fort Frye always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Zanesville only posted an OBP of .263.

Meanwhile, Belpre got themselves on the board against Wirt County on Friday, but Wirt County never followed suit. They had just enough and edged out the Tigers 1-0. The Golden Eagles haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Belpre saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addy Stewart, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Fort Frye's record is now 10-7. As for Belpre, their record now sits at 7-9.

Fort Frye skirted past Belpre 5-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cadets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
