Basketball Recap: Benedictine Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

If New Hampstead wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Benedictine, they should've done a better job of containing Caleb Jones. The Benedictine Cadets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 67-65 victory over the New Hampstead Phoenix on Tuesday thanks in part to Jones, who went 8 for 15 on his way to 24 points along with six boards and five steals. He has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 44 times he's played.

John Lilly was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in boards.

Benedictine is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points per game. As for New Hampstead, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.

Coincidentally, Benedictine and New Hampstead will both be playing Ware County the next time they take the court. New Hampstead will host Ware County at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Benedictine will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
