Softball Recap: North Yarmouth Academy Panthers vs. Penobscot Valley Howlers

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but North Yarmouth Academy had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They beat the Penobscot Valley Howlers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 2-1. Winning may never get old, but North Yarmouth Academy sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Lily Rawnsley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, North Yarmouth Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Nash, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

On Penobscot Valley's side, Lauren Veino put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Veino was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

North Yarmouth Academy's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-3. As for Penobscot Valley, their loss ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-3.
