Foothill cracks top five; top three teams hold strong.



The top three teams held steady with Foothill climbing to No. 4 and Bellarmine inching up to 7 as coach Mike Janda won his 250th game.

League play starts this week for most programs.

1. De La Salle (Concord) (Last week 1) 4-0
Section: North Coast
League: Freelance
Result: Beat previous No. 12 Del Oro 52-0 to move unbeaten mark against Northern California teams to 253 since 1991 as Antoine Custer rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Other wins include No. 20 Jesuit (Carmichael) and then No. 6 Serra (San Mateo).
Next: vs. Servite (Anaheim), Saturday.

2. Folsom (2) 4-0
Section: Sac-Joaquin
League: Sierra Foothill
Result: Beat Burbank (Sacramento) 61-13 as the starters were pulled early for the third consecutive game. Jake Browning tossed seven touchdowns, three to Cole Thompson, as Browning has 27 on the season, 14 to Thompson.
Next: vs. No. 12 Granite Bay, Friday.

3. Elk Grove (3) 3-0
Section: Sac-Joaquin
League: Delta
Result: Beat Yuba City 7-0 as Spencer Sheff rushed for 170 yards and Tyler Vander Waal found Aidan Martinez for a 48-yard touchdown. Sai Ta'amu had two sacks.

4. Foothill (Pleasanton) (7) 3-0

League: East Bay
Result: Beat Castro Valley 50-14 in outscoring teams 127-32. Kyle Kearns passed for 156 yards and four touchdowns in the first half.

Result: Beat previous No. 4 Valley Christian (San Jose) 31-17 as Christian Rita had a 99-yard touchdown on special teams to go along with a 78-yard scoring catch on a pass from John Keller.

League: West Catholic Athletic
Result: Beat Piedmont Hills (San Jose) 56-20 as Kyle MacAuley scored three touchdowns and Buenrostro Devon returned a kickoff 91 yards for a score to give coach Mike Janda his 250th career victory.

Result: Beat South San Francisco 50-0 as Kelepi Lataimua rushed for three touchdowns. The Padres have losses to state-ranked Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) 24-14 and 41-13 to No. 1 De La Salle.

League: Sierra Foothill
Result: Beat previous No. 9 Sacramento 47-6 as Max O'Rourke passed for five touchdowns, hitting Blake Laurin three times, and the defense came up with three interceptions and three sacks.

11. Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) (6) 3-1
Section: Sac-Joaquin
League: Sierra Foothill
Result: Lost to Reed (Sparks, Nev.) 26-14 after successive ranked wins against Vacaville and Burbank (Sacramento).

League: Monticello Empire
Result: Beat previous No. 9 Granite Bay 13-7 as Chad Hekking and Daveon Harris led long, time-consuming scoring drives in evening the nonleague series 5-5-1. Vacaville lost only at No. 8 Oak Ridge on the final play.

Result: Lost to new No. 11 Vacaville 13-6 despite a strong game from LB Cameron Smith, who had two interceptions.

Result: Idle. An earlier win was 28-23 over No. 15 San Ramon Valley.

15. San Ramon Valley (Danville) (14) 2-1

Result: Idle. The loss was to No. 14 Logan 28-23.
Next: at No. 7 Foothill (Pleasanton), Friday.

Result: Lost to No. 7 Milpitas 31-17 to stall a fast start heading into West Catholic Athletic League play.

Result: Lost to No. 1 De La Salle 52-0 a week after beating state-ranked Vista Murieta 22-15. The other losses were to San Diego No. 1-ranked Helix (La Mesa) 34-10 in the Honor Bowl and to Hawaii power Kamehameha on a late score.
