Basketball Recap: Harlingen South Comes Up Short

Harlingen South was the 63-48 winner over Edcouch-Elsa when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Harlingen South Hawks were just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 62-61 to the Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Edcouch-Elsa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Erasmo Tamez, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine boards. Jaydon Villalpando was another key player, going 5 for 12 en route to 18 points.

Harlingen South now has a losing record at 12-13. As for Edcouch-Elsa, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Harlingen South will take on Lopez at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Edcouch-Elsa, they will face off against Mercedes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
