Baseball Game Preview: New Richmond Tigers vs. Hudson Raiders

The New Richmond Tigers will take on the Hudson Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (New Richmond 3.6, Hudson 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

New Richmond's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Saturday's struggle, when Somerset hitters got past them. The Tigers lost 17-7 to the Spartans on Saturday. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hudson came out on top against Sun Prairie East on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run seventh inning. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Cardinals. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Myles Howe tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Hudson let Jace Mataczynski and Sam Manchester run wild. Mataczynski went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Manchester went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Abrahamson, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Hudson pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for New Richmond, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-2.

New Richmond suffered a grim 13-4 defeat to Hudson in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
