Softball Game Preview: Jefferson Eagles vs. Pewaukee Pirates

The Jefferson Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Pewaukee Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Jefferson is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

On Thursday, Jefferson beat East Troy 6-2. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly four runs.

Natalie Weber made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hannah Werning, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Milbrath, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Beaver Dam hit Pewaukee with a four-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pirates fell just short of the Golden Beavers by a score of 7-5. The Pirates' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Sydney Brewster made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Tisdale, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Pewaukee's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Jefferson, their record is now 16-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Jefferson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pewaukee struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
