Basketball Recap: Firelands Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Firelands and Warrensville Heights squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Firelands had to settle for second. They were beaten by the Warrensville Heights Tigers 65-32. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 267th, while the Tigers are ranked 78th).

Warrensville Heights found their leader in freshman Skyler Ballard, who went 8-for-11 to rack up 16 points along with six steals and five assists. Ballard has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Tamarra Thomas was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Firelands' loss dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Warrensville Heights, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season.

Firelands does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Warrensville Heights, they will square off against Wauseon at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Wauseon sitting on eight straight wins and Warrensville Heights on five.
