Basketball Recap: Silverdale Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Braylee Raby and Kinsley Owen

After flying high against Collegedale Academy last Tuesday, Silverdale Academy came back down to earth. The Silverdale Academy Seahawks fell 50-42 to the Cleveland Blue Raiders on Friday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Seahawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 41-35 back in November.

Despite the defeat, Silverdale Academy had strong showings from Kinsley Owen, who went 9 of 11 en route to 20 points and four steals, and Braylee Raby, who posted eight points and 12 boards. Silverdale Academy is 4-2 when Raby posts eight or more rebounds, but 2-3 otherwise.

Cleveland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Laney Copeland led the charge by putting up 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariyah Huffman, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 16 points and three steals.

Silverdale Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Cleveland, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.

Silverdale Academy will host Walker Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Silverdale Academy is facing Walker Valley at the right time seeing as Walker Valley is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Cleveland, they will venture away from home to square off against Oak Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oak Ridge will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Cleveland surely won't give up without a fight.
