Baseball Recap: Picayune Maroon Tide vs. Long Beach Bearcats
Picayune had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 20-8 to make it four. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (5-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bearcats earlier this season, when they won 5-1.
Makon Burnette was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Picayune saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colt Robertson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
As for Long Beach, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-13 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games.
On Long Beach's side, the team relied heavily on Dax Arkin, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
As of now, neither Picayune nor the Bearcats have any future games scheduled.
