Basketball Recap: Kyson Mcleod's Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Aiken over Aiken

South Aiken was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 60-54 heartbreaker at the hands of the Aiken Fighting Green Hornets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Green Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 72-61 two weeks ago.

South Aiken's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyson McLeod, who went 5-for-9 en route to 16 points and eight boards. Those 16 points gave McLeod a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kelton Walker, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 12 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, South Aiken smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive games.

Aiken got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tre'Von Walker out in front who went 6-for-13 on his way to 17 points and five boards. Sanjaya Johnson was another key player, putting up 12 points and eight rebounds.

South Aiken's record now sits at 7-18. As for Aiken, their win bumped their record up to 11-14.

South Aiken and Aiken could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings. South Aiken (ranked 170th) will meet Crestwood (ranked 16th) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Aiken will face off against Gray Collegiate Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday down 104 places (122 vs. 18).
