Baseball Recap: Challis Drops Highest Score of Season Against West Jefferson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Challis). Everything went their way against the West Jefferson Panthers on Thursday as they made off with a 24-3 victory. With that win, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.

Marlen Mitchell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Tanner Ellsworth was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, two doubles, and one run. James Parker was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-3.

Challis kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

Challis' record is now 7-2-1. As for West Jefferson, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Challis will venture away from home to take on Sugar-Salem at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for West Jefferson, they will challenge North Fremont at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
