Softball Game Preview: Ashland Oredockers vs. Spooner Rails

Ashland is 0-9 against Spooner since April of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The Oredockers will look to defend their home field against the Rails at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Ashland is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Northland Pines on Friday as they made off with a 19-2 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Hailey Henri made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Henri was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tatiana Kraft, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amber Wiezorek, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Ashland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .771. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Spooner, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Hayward a 10-0 shutout on Monday. The Rails might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.

Spooner pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Ashland, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.
