Basketball Game Preview: Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls vs. Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes

The Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls and the Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.

Carlsbad is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Santa Fe, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Carlsbad was ranked 19th). Carlsbad took a 50-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Santa Fe. The match marked the Cavemen/Cavegirls' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

While Pojoaque Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They rang in the new year with a 42-35 victory over Portales on Friday.

Pojoaque Valley's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. As for Carlsbad, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
