Basketball Game Preview: Sutton Mustangs vs. Mead Raiders

The Sutton Mustangs will take on the Mead Raiders in a tournament on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sutton has four straight victories, Mead has 26 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Saturday, Sutton was able to grind out a solid win over Nebraska Christian, taking the game 59-49.

Meanwhile, Mead played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 66-14 defeat at the hands of Brownell Talbot. Mead was down 47-8 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Sutton will need focus on slowing down Stella Charles, one of several Mead players who made an impact when they last played. She posted five points and five rebounds.

Sutton's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.5 points per game. As for Mead, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Everything came up roses for Sutton against Mead in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 66-9 win. In that contest, Sutton amassed a halftime lead of 42-4, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Saturday.
