Softball Game Preview: Pacifica Mariners vs. La Habra Highlanders

The Pacifica Mariners will venture away from home to face off against the La Habra Highlanders at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Pacifica's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so La Habra's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Pacifica is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Canyon just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 4-1 to the Comanches.

Pacifica saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mikella Carey, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. Sanaiyah Cleland also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, La Habra fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against El Modena on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vanguards by a score of 6-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Eliana Corona and Georgia Rickenbacker did some serious damage despite the final result: Corona went 3-for-4 with two runs, while Rickenbacker went 3-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

La Habra's loss dropped their record down to 17-7. As for Pacifica, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-9.

Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pacifica hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like La Habra struggles in that department as they've averaged .334. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
