Softball Recap: Springfield Triumphs

Springfield took a 18-run defeat the last time they faced off against Sangamon Valley/Tri-City, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Senators came out on top in a nail-biter against the Storm on Wednesday, sneaking past 2-1. That's two games straight that the Senators have won by just one run.

Mia Volpert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Springfield's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Maya Bennett, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Bennett is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

The victory made it two in a row for Springfield and bumps their season record up to 14-4. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Sangamon Valley/Tri-City, their loss dropped their record down to 17-5.

Springfield has already played their next game (against Tri-City), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Sangamon Valley/Tri-City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
