Preview: West Trojans vs. Clifton Cubs
West is 8-2 against Clifton since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The West Trojans will be playing at home against the Clifton Cubs at 6:00 p.m. West will be looking to extend their current 14-game winning streak.
Even though West has not done well against Maypearl recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. West walked away with a 53-40 win over Maypearl. Given West's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Maypearl is ranked 551st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Clifton scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 61-15 victory over Whitney. That 46 points margin sets a new team best for Clifton this season.
Clifton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Delilah Martinez, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Martinez pulled down eight or more rebounds. Camy Barsh was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six steals.
West pushed their record up to 22-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Clifton, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.
West beat Clifton 36-28 in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. Does West have another victory up their sleeve, or will Clifton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
