Basketball Recap: Tabiona Falls Despite Big Games from Rocky Rhoades and Stran Giles

Tabiona was the 73-54 winner over Green River when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Tigers took a 67-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates on Wednesday. The Tigers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Tabiona's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Stran Giles, who went 8-for-10 en route to 23 points and five boards, and Rocky Rhoades, who shot 67% from the field on his way to 23 points and six rebounds. That was a full 37.1% of the Tigers' points, marking the fifth time in a row Rhoades has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Olson, who had ten points.

Green River got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Rolando Anguiano out in front who shot 63% from the field to rack up 23 points and six boards. Anguiano is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last eight games he's played dating back to last season. David Mendez was another key player, going 7-for-14 en route to 22 points.

Tabiona's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Green River, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Coming up, Tabiona will head out to challenge Duchesne at 7:00 p.m. on the 18th. The Eagles have been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Green River, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-64 loss against Carbon on the 12th.
