Basketball Preview: Catalina Trojans vs. Palo Verde Titans

Catalina is 0-10 against the Titans since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Catalina Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Palo Verde Titans at 7:00 p.m. Catalina is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 17-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.

Catalina pushed their score all the way to 60 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their rough 86-60 defeat to Santa Rita might stick with them for a while.

Meanwhile, even though Tanque Verde scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, Palo Verde still came out on top. Palo Verde blew past the Hawks 78-57.

Palo Verde got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Julian Blackburne out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine steals. Blackburne also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Daniel Ortiz was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Catalina's loss dropped their record down to 1-18. As for Palo Verde, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Catalina took a serious blow against the Titans when the teams last played back in November of 2023, falling 87-28. Can Catalina avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
