Basketball Recap: Babcock Skates Past Sarasota Christian with Ease

Babcock came tearing into Saturday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Sarasota Christian Blazers 62-27. The Trailblazers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Babcock's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marianeliz Murillo led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Makena Ferry, who posted 15 points and six boards.

Despite the defeat, Sarasota Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Nikki Olupitan almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds. Olupitan has become a key player for Sarasota Christian: the team is 4-1 when she posts at least eight boards, but 4-8 otherwise. Octavia Stoller was another key player, putting up nine points and eight rebounds.

Babcock is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Sarasota Christian, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Babcock will face off against Gulf Coast HEAT at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gulf Coast HEAT's defense has only allowed 27.7 points per game this season, so Babcock's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Sarasota Christian, they will square off against Out-of-Door Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
