Volleyball Recap: Somersworth Falls Short Against Ranked Oyster River

Somersworth faced Oyster River in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Toppers fell just short of the Bobcats by a score of 3-2. That makes it the first time this season the Toppers have let down their home crowd.

Somersworth took Oyster River into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking nine-point loss. The final score came out to 25-18, 23-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-6.

Savanna Comeau paced Somersworth's offense, picking up 17 kills. Comeau got some help from Kylie Pettengill and her 38 assists. Finally, Paige Demers kept Somersworth's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

Somersworth's loss dropped their record down to 12-2. As for Oyster River, they pushed their record up to 14-0 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Somersworth is set to square off against their familiar foe Kingswood at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Oyster River will challenge rival Prospect Mountain at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
