Softball Recap: Peninsula Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Peninsula ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Mira Costa Mustangs 4-3. The win was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Sienna Saggiani spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Frances Toman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Alina Abukurah, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Peninsula's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Mira Costa, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Peninsula will take on King/Drew at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mira Costa, they will be playing at home against Banning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Mira Costa's pitchers better be ready for this one: Banning has averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
