Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for J.R. Tucker

J.R. Tucker took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against Freeman, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Mavericks 5-4. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Mavericks on their field since March 25, 2022.

Kendall Shockley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Shockley was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Corinne Lewis, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The win was the fifth in a row for J.R. Tucker, bringing their record up to 5-8. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Freeman, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

J.R. Tucker will head out on the road to challenge Highland Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Freeman, they will square off against Deep Run at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Mavericks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
