De Anza had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 1-10-1 to make it seven. They came up short against the El Cerrito Gauchos, falling 11-3. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
De Anza saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ty Willson, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
As for El Cerrito, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.
On El Cerrito's side, William Reddall was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Reddall has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Evan Tank looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, El Cerrito got a big performance out of Reggie Burnham, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave Burnham a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Solomon McCormick, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
De Anza didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-9 victory against Saint Mary's on the 16th. As for El Cerrito, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Pinole Valley on the 16th.
