Softball Recap: Piedmont's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

Piedmont dropped their record down to 9-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the San Leandro Pirates, falling 11-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Highlanders of the 11-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Piedmont saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miya Fujimoto, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Fujimoto is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last nine games she's played.

As for San Leandro, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. The result was nothing new for San Leandro, who have now won 13 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

On San Leandro's side, Marina Sacrey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Sacrey was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jacella Onate was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Destiny Simmons was another key player, earning three runs and four stolen bases.

Looking ahead, Piedmont will face off against Hercules at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for San Leandro, they will challenge Alameda at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
