Recap: South View Tigers vs. Seventy-First Falcons
The South View Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 48-47 to Seventy-First. While losing is never fun, South View can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 309th, while Seventy-First is ranked 99th).
South View's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chase Evans, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikayle Oliphant, who scored six points along with ten rebounds.
It was another big night for Mylon Campbell, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds for Seventy-First. The match was Campbell's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jacquez Foster, who scored five points.
South View's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-3. As for Seventy-First, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.
South View will take on Fayetteville Christian in a holiday battle at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at. Hopefully Fayetteville Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. Seventy-First will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Gray's Creek at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
