High school baseball: National stolen base leaders include prolific Alabama teammates

Tylan Amerson and Kareem Keye of Minor High School have combined for 115 stolen bases.

Minor (Adamsville, Ala.) is running wild on the basepaths this season with 358 stolen bases. Four Tigers are ranked in the top 15 nationally including junior Tylan Amerson, who is second in the country with 63 successful stolen bases.

Amerson has a .534 batting average and has crossed home plate a national-best 59 times. The junior is also a wide receiver on the football team where he caught five touchdowns from senior quarterback Kareem Keye, who is third in the nation with 52 stolen bases.

Teammates Ethan Bucher and Chris Baitey are tied for 15th in the country at 38 stolen bases. Amerson, Keye, Bucher and Baitey have combined for 191 stolen bases and 184 runs.

Minor has 12 players with double-digit stolen bases this spring.

Senior Kaleb Cost of Sandy Creek (Tyrone, Ga.) leads the nation with 74 stolen bases. The senior has gotten on base 47 times this year and has only been thrown out one time in 75 attempts. Cost is headed to North Carolina next year, where he is expected to compete in both baseball and football. The multi-sport star caught 10 touchdowns as a receiver in the fall.
