Football Recap: Jericho Martin and Malik Burns Secure Win for Spanaway Lake + How To Watch

Spanaway Lake's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They strolled past the Federal Way Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 24-10. For the Sentinels, this counts as revenge for the 53-10 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

A big part of Spanaway Lake's win came down to the chemistry between Jericho Martin and his top target Malik Burns. Martin threw for 211 yards and one TD on only 18 passes while Burns picked up 150 receiving yards and one score. Those 150 receiving yards gave Burns a new career-high. Cordae Cummings made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Spanaway Lake, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Burns, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Spanaway Lake didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Cummings picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Spanaway Lake's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Federal Way, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Looking ahead, Spanaway Lake will head out to face off against Yelm at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The match will give the Sentinels their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Federal Way, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Enumclaw at 6:00 p.m.
